The performance I See Everyone Getting All the Things I Want (2021),
directed by Nikola Balberčáková and Markéta Slaná, transformed a private apartment in Bratislava into a space for a collective experience of live acts resembling YouTube beauty and lifestyle vlogs as well as other internet content for the duration of one evening. The fragments of the performance consisted of different activities inspired by influencer culture and different ways of sharing texts from personal diaries and academic texts by using reading groups techniques. Through dancing challenges, positive affirmations, TikTok trends, YouTube tutorials, karaoke singing and other interactions with the audience, the experience blurred the borders between irony and vulnerability, and created a pink-hued dream-like atmosphere. By combining different contents into at times unusual and hectic performance narrative, the project captures the ways we receive information while scrolling through social media networks and reflects an emotional landscape of a younger generation by presenting themes of commodified self-care, feminism and queerness, identity crisis and the concept of “New Sincerity”.
